LeBron James has kept his temper largely under control even against aggressive opponents since he came into the NBA, but now he wants to change all that.
The 15-year veteran thinks the league is too soft and wants the game to be more physical. In response to a post on Instagram by SLAM, James blamed the league front office for turning the players into a bunch of softies.
A video clip from a game between the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks showing Michael Jordan and Xavier McDaniel losing their cool was posted on SLAM’s IG with the caption:
“The League was different back in the 90s. Should today’s players be going hard like MJ and them did?”
“They won’t allow us to! I wish.” – James.
The truth is, James has a reputation for being a gentleman on the court and has rarely ever been initially malicious towards an opponent. Even when goaded into a brawl, James usually assumes a defensive stance and would rather back out than shove an opponent. Don’t even bother searching on YouTube for clips where he was involved in an actual fight; you won’t find such.
LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers are third in the Eastern Conference for the 2017/2018 season with a 26-16 record behind the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. Even though pundits are largely of the opinion that the Cavaliers would rev up the engine come playoffs, there is still a healthy fear that the team could crumble, seeing as the team has been inconsistent this season against teams it would have beaten easily in the past. For the record, the Cavaliers are 0-3 against the Indiana Pacers (23-20) this season.
Perhaps King James is psyching himself and his teammates up to the challenge of the remaining 40 games of the season.
If the King needs some motivation for the second half of the season, he should reach out to Xavier McDaniel for some tips or watch some of his old games. McDaniels would, no doubt, be kind enough to offer some help seeing as he listed James as one of the five players from this era he considers tough enough to play in the 90s.
