Evelyn Akhator gets National and Conference Player of the Week honors

Evelyn Akhator has been named National Player of the Week and South East Conference (SEC) Player of the Week after leading the Kentucky Wildcats to two straight wins to start the season.

The 6’3 power forward from Lagos, Nigeria had a career high 28 points to go with 13 rebounds as the Wildcats defeated Albany 70-46 on the night of Saturday 12 November. In the season opener, Akhator had 18 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks 2 steals and 1 assist as Kentucky defeated University of Miami 82-66.

Akhator had an early start in the game, scoring the first seven points for the Kentucky Wildcats. She finished the game as the only player on Kentucky who scored in double figures, leading the team to its second straight win on the strength of her consecutive double-doubles. Akhator’s back-to-back double doubles is the first by a Wildcats player since 2009 to start the season.
